Michael Rusconi, Founding Attorney

I am the founding attorney at the Law Offices of Michael S. Rusconi, a Massachusetts criminal defense law firm.

I have appeared in over 45 courts in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts representing clients accused of misdemeanor and felony criminal charges. I have also served as an Assistant District Attorney for Norfolk County, and handled the prosecution of hundreds of cases for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  I grew up in Weymouth, MA, and attended Boston College High School before going to Providence College.  I worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance as a Bodily Injury claims adjuster where I became familiar with the process of how insurance companies try to save money when paying out personal injury claims to victims.  After Liberty Mutual, I worked for Brown Brothers & Harriman, an investment bank in Boston, while I attended law school at night at New England Law – Boston.  During my time in law school, I interned with the trial division at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office while also working three days a week at the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office as a student prosecutor while doing landscaping work on the weekends.  I continued my work at Norfolk County after graduation until 2013 where I left to begin a career as a criminal defense lawyer, which brings us to today.

Hiring a Lawyer

Hiring a lawyer can seem difficult, especially if you have never had any experience with the criminal justice system.  Many things will factor into your decision making, however, reputation and experience are usually at the top of the list.   You should also be sure that you are comfortable with your attorney.  You will want someone who is attentive, responsive, and professional.  While someone may have a good reputation, if they are not responsive to the client and communicative about the case, it will leave you with an unsettling feeling.

I will worry about your case so that you do not have to.

Court is stressful.  The fact that court proceedings generally take several months to years at a time only makes the stress worse, most of the time.  It can be an overwhelming experience and it is often difficult to even follow exactly what is going on, despite being in the middle of it all.  There are probably several questions you will have:

  • What is the worst/best case scenario?

  • When do I get to tell my side of the story?

  • Is this something that can be taken care of without going to trial?

  • What are my rights? Were they violated at any point?

Often times the answers to these questions are not simple answers, and you will need someone who has not only the expertise, but the patience and tact to give you a clear picture as to what is going on, and what will happen going forward.  It is not uncommon to ask these questions more than once and in different ways.  That is normal.  It’s a lot to process and it’s not fun.

I will find the best way to deal with your case.

The most valued asset a defense attorney can have when speaking with a client is to paint a clear picture as to what is going on and offer some calming advice without being unrealistic.  You may want someone to tell you that your case is going to go away and this will all be over very soon.  You can be sure that I will always offer the best way to handle your case, and the most efficient way possible under the circumstances.  I recognize that getting a case resolved quickly is the most important thing for many clients, however, it is not usually the smartest thing.
